D4T Twinning project continues 2026 – engaging sessions in Tanzania Annual ICT-Week (TAIC)

Digital for Tanzania (D4T) Twinning project had a fruitful 5-days in sunny Dar es Salaam 19-23.1.2026. D4T Twinning project was extended to continue until the end of 2026, so our excellent cooperation with the Tanzanian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) and ICT-Commission of Tanzania continues. To get things moving, we held our 6th Twinning Committee meeting to discuss on activities for the next 6 months. In addition to project coordination, we had an honour to attend and speak at the 9th Tanzania Annual ICT-Conference (TAIC), held in the beautiful Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.

Vision 2050 and young innovators

As part of the EU-funded Digital for Tanzania (D4T) Project’s participation at TAIC, one of the highlights was an engaging session on Tuesday, moderated by Dennis Karugaba, Resident Twinning Advisor Assistant, in collaboration with the Youth4Children Innovation Hub.

The session strongly echoed the conference theme, Vision 2050, and Tanzania’s ambition to achieve a USD 1 trillion economy by 2050. The energy, creativity, and practical problem-solving demonstrated by young innovators reinforced the central role of youth in driving inclusive and sustainable digital transformation.

Their enthusiasm, application of technology to real-world challenges, and confidence in engaging with policy and development conversations had a clear and positive impact on the audience. It was a powerful reminder that digital transformation is not only about systems and strategies, but also about people, especially young people, who are ready to innovate, lead, and scale solutions for national development.

Digital wallets and digital by default

On Wednesday 21st of January, D4T Member State Project Leader Mr. Mika King showcased how Finland builds up its national version of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI-wallet), based on eIDAS2-Act, thus providing cross-border digital identification in both digital and physical world.

On the same day, Mr. Jani Ruuskanen, D4T Resident Twinning Adviser, held a presentation on how Finland journeys towards digital by default, by taking the first step in 2026 making the use of digital post (Suomi.fi-messages) mandatory to those citizens who use digital public services.

Through our engagement at TAIC, Digital for Tanzania (D4T) continues to support dialogue that connects policy, innovation, and implementation, ensuring that Tanzania’s digital journey toward Vision 2050 is inclusive, trusted, and impact driven.

We commend the Youth4Children Innovation Hub, the TAIC organizers, and all participants for contributing to a successful conference and meaningful conversations shaping Tanzania’s digital future. D4T will continue supporting the digital transformation of Tanzania in the areas of cyber-security, personal data protection, interoperability, data management and overall digital governance. Stay tuned!
